Collective dynamics of flowing colloids during pore clogging.
Based on direct numerical simulations of the coupled motion of particles and fluid, this study analyzes the collective hydrodynamic and colloidal effects of flowing microparticles during the formation of different 3D clogging patterns at a pore entrance. Simulations of flowing suspensions through a pore with various simulation conditions show that particle concentration and surface interactions...
متن کاملClogging transition of many-particle systems flowing through bottlenecks
When a large set of discrete bodies passes through a bottleneck, the flow may become intermittent due to the development of clogs that obstruct the constriction. Clogging is observed, for instance, in colloidal suspensions, granular materials and crowd swarming, where consequences may be dramatic. Despite its ubiquity, a general framework embracing research in such a wide variety of scenarios i...
متن کاملCollective thermoelectrophoresis of charged colloids.
Thermally driven colloidal transport is, to a large extent, due to the thermoelectric or Seebeck effect of the charged solution. We show that, contrary to the generally adopted single-particle picture, the transport coefficient depends on the colloidal concentration. For solutions that are dilute in the hydrodynamic sense, collective effects may significantly affect the thermophoretic mobility....
متن کاملClogging and cleaning of fine-pore membrane diffusers.
Causes for the increase of the pressure loss of fine bubble diffusers made of elastomers were investigated. Methods are described for removing clogging material from membrane diffusers and/or attenuating or even avoiding the formation of clogging deposits. On the basis of some practical examples the procedure is discussed and obtained reductions of pressure losses are specified.
متن کاملPore-scale Simulations of Pore Clogging and Upscaling with Large Velocities
Computational modelling of processes at pore-scale allows to get detailed insight into their nature. It also provides tools to improve coarse-scale models in which porous medium is considered as a permeable continuum. In this paper, we use the simulations at microscale combined with an upscaling procedure and describe the impact of small changes in the pore morphology on the macroscale paramete...
